Traveling northwest through the South Plains of West Texas we traversed a hundred mile dust storm. 50 miles per hour gusts scoured brown Texas fields and turned day into an earthen night. A graveyard of forgotten farm machinery posed before an apocalyptic sky recalling images of the dust bowl where whole towns were obscured by blowing dirt and parched by years of drought.
